Extended Medical Insurance

RMT's in BC are covered by most extended health plans. Private plans all carry their own specific allowances for Massage Therapy. Your therapist will give you a receipt for your treatment(s) which you then submit to your extended health care plan for reimbursement according to your specific plan. For more information on your plan's allowances, contact your extended carrier or plan administrator directly.

MSP

$25.00/ treatment fee applies.

Those who are considered 'Premium Assistance' by MSP are covered for up to 10 visits per calendar year (this includes visits for either Massage Therapy, Chiropractic or Physiotherapy or a combination of the above).

ICBC

$25.00/ treatment ICBC administration fee.
$50.00 /1/2 hour treatment after ICBC coverage expires or if ICBC refuses to cover for any reason.

  • ICBC categorizes massage therapy as nondiscretionary therapy as per physiotherapy and chiropractic. This means that treatment is automatically approved for a claimant injured in an MVA.
  • A patient can seek and receive massage therapy any time after an MVA, provided that the claim is still open.
  • An MD referral is no longer necessary for the first 12 treatments.
  • ICBC is regulated to pay a minimum 12 treatments but has the discretion to authorize further therapy (up to 20 treatments).
  • If you choose to seek treatment after the ICBC treatment limit has ended you would pay the regular burnaby massage treatment fee.

Please arrive 5 minutes early to fill out the Burnaby Massage Initial history form or fill out the form on the website and email it before arrival.

ICBC only pays for a portion of the treatment. You will need to save your receipts for the balance and submit them to your adjuster for possible reimbursement.

Information to bring with you for your first treatment if you have had a motor vehicle accident.
